My Office Makeover

Makers was launched out of a 600 sqft apartment circa 2017, so when my husband and I bought our first home in 2018 and I bought my first desk that wasn’t a lap on the couch or a kitchen counter top, I felt SPOILED. That same Ikea desk served me faithfully for 3 years but it was finally time for an upgrade when I graduated from my 13 inch MacBook to an iMac that’s twice the size (and all of my designer friends sang a resounding Hallelujah). Between my new desktop computer and my coworker’s…okay my cat’s desire to set up shop on my desk, an expansion was necessary.

However, incase you haven’t noticed, office furniture (or any furniture for that matter) is hard to come by nowadays. So we flexed our creative muscles and opted for turning my beloved Ikea desktop into a leg for my new L-shaped desk and grabbed some wood from Home Depot for the new desktop and supports for a whopping $62.00.

It’s still got a ways to go- I’m envisioning a built-in bench with storage, a new desk chair, a gallery wall above my computer, and a new rug. But for the time being, I am OVERJOYED with my new setup. I swear I’m 10x more productive with my new iMac and call me entitled but I don’t know how I managed countless design projects on a 13inch screen for 3+ years without batting an eye at it. I no longer have to battle my coworker for desk space and I frequently procrastinate my actual work by browsing the internet for meaningful art pieces to fill my gallery wall with.

Below you’ll see where we started, where we’re at now, and some inspo for where I plan to take this space. Maybe I’ll hunker down and make it happen in the next couple of months or maybe it will take another year. But regardless, I’m thankful for the process and this little office in our home with an A+ commute down the stairs every morning.
